Lunch Break with Jake: 11/03/08 (Missed it)

By | November 3, 2008

Well, I didn’t get a chance to do a “Lunch Break with Jake” today.  There was a good reason for that.

You see, normally, I get home and make lunch.  While eating lunch I write about whatever topic I came up with during the morning or the night before.  Today when I got home for lunch, I had just pulled out the leftovers from the refrigerator – and my pager goes off.

Grass fire 4 miles north of Buchanan, west side of Hwy 281.  So I flip on the blue light, head down to the station, pull up just as the first truck is rolling out of the door.  Another guy and myself take the third truck out (207, the tanker) and head on up that way.  Now the tanker is around 2000 gallons of water if I recall right, 208 (White Cloud) is the 3000 gallon one, so it doesn’t move the fastest.  Plus, the location is 16 miles from the station.

Well the rest of the story goes – get there and it is a controlled burn.  Everything is ok.  So just as we pull up in the tanker, we get word to go home.  So get turned around and head the 16 miles back to the station, put gear away, and head home to try and finish lunch and get back to work.

So I will try to have a better lunch break post tomorrow 🙂  I have a feeling it will have something to do with the election that you might have heard a thing or two about.
