Epic Plains Revamp – A look back

By | October 13, 2010

It has been almost a month since I jumped back into Epic Plains with a vengeance, started using the Editorial Calendar plugin, and refreshed the look of the site.

How is the progress continuing?  I think very well.  Maintaining a Monday – Wednesday – Friday article publication schedule.  Tuesday and Thursday I have been posting book reviews.  I had a backlog of reviews so that has helped keep things going.  Not sure if I will be able to maintain the reviews or not yet, particularly with NaNoWriMo coming up, but we will see.  The site redesign is something else I am quite pleased with.  It works better and is far more aesthetically pleasing than the old one.

Indications seem to be that it has been a marked difference.  Traffic is sharply up and the site now has a few thousand pageviews a month as opposed to a few hundred.  A lot of that has to due with increasing the frequency and quality in posts.  Prior to the revamp, I had around 30 published posts over the course of a year.  Now I have 60ish published posts and 17 drafts started and plotted out.  Depending on work schedules etc I might back off the schedule a bit if it becomes necessary to keep solid posts coming, but we will see.  I would like to keep up this schedule if possible though.

From time to time we will also be seeing guest posts here and contributing authors.  That is another new feature on this site that I am enjoying.  If interested yourself, please check out the guidelines page.  Feel free to let me know if you have any comments or suggestions, either on this post or via the contact form.
